In 2024, the number of international tourists visiting Egypt increased by 6%, while Turkish tourist arrivals surged by 70%. This upward trend is expected to continue, with a 30% increase in Turkish visitors projected for 2025.

At Eastern Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Fair (EMITT) held in Istanbul, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, highlighted the latest developments in Egypt’s tourism industry and outlined ambitious new projects.

Expressing confidence in Egypt’s continued growth and stability in tourism, Fathy stated:

"Last year, Egypt welcomed 15.75 million tourists, marking a 6% increase compared to 2023. These figures reflect Egypt’s enduring appeal for global travelers and reinforce its position as a leading international tourism destination."

Egypt becomes a favorite destination for Turkish tourists

Underlining Turkiye's importance as a key market, Minister Fathy revealed that 230,000 Turkish tourists visited Egypt in 2024, a remarkable 70% increase compared to 2023. With direct flights available from major Turkish cities like Istanbul to Cairo, Sharm El-Sheikh, and other popular destinations, this number is expected to grow by 30% in 2025.

"We are confident that in 2025, we will exceed both our international visitor targets and the number of Turkish travelers coming to Egypt. This aligns with our strategic vision of welcoming 30 million tourists by 2030," Fathy added.

A destination of history, culture, and wellness

With its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning natural landscapes, Egypt remains one of the most sought-after travel destinations worldwide. From the legacy of the Pharaohs to the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World, the country offers unparalleled experiences for history and culture enthusiasts.

Beyond its archaeological treasures, Egypt also attracts adventure seekers and leisure travelers. Visitors can explore the crystal-clear waters of the Red Sea, enjoy world-class diving experiences, and choose from a variety of affordable yet high-quality accommodations with excellent international connectivity.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization, has further strengthened Egypt’s tourism appeal. Following 30 years of preparation and restoration, the museum officially opened its doors on October 16, 2024. While some sections are still under development, visitors can now explore the Grand Hall, main staircase, gardens, and select exhibition rooms. During its pre-opening phase in 2024, the museum attracted over 300,000 visitors.

Commitment to Sustainable Tourism

Egypt is also committed to developing its tourism infrastructure and heritage in an environmentally and economically sustainable manner. The Red Sea’s biodiversity is central to Egypt’s responsible tourism strategy, with eco-friendly initiatives and certification programs implemented in resorts from El Gouna to Marsa Alam. These initiatives aim to preserve marine life while promoting sustainable travel experiences.

With a strategic focus on expanding visitor numbers, enhancing tourism infrastructure, and promoting sustainable development, Egypt continues to strengthen its position as a top global travel destination.
