The Republican People's Party - CHP- Bursa MP Hasan Öztürk has claimed that citizens' real-time locations and hotel reservation datas are being sold via Telegram, raising serious concerns about data security in the country.

Öztürk strongly criticized the situation, stating, “This is an outright declaration that the state has lost all control over data security.  People's safety is being sold for 50 lira via Telegram channels.”

"Hotel reservation datas that should only be accessible to law enforcement..."

One of the most alarming aspects of the scandal, according to Öztürk, is the alleged sale of hotel records that should be exclusively available to police and gendarmerie. Questioning how such sensitive data was leaked, he asked, “Is law enforcement involved, or has the security system been hacked? If these records are being provided by the police, this is a case of direct complicity. If hackers have infiltrated the system, it proves that the state’s security infrastructure has completely collapsed.”

"Citizens’ data on sale for just 50 TL!"

As reported by T24, Öztürk criticized the government's handling of cybersecurity, saying, “Türkiye’s cybersecurity system has collapsed, state data security is in ruins, and citizens’ personal information is in the hands of criminal networks.

Referring to the ongoing parliamentary discussions on cybersecurity regulations, Öztürk added, “Türkiye is talking about a Cybersecurity Law—security for what? While citizens’ ID information, real-time locations, and hotel records are being sold on Telegram for 50 lira, what security are you referring to? You cannot even protect the state’s most confidential data, yet you are passing laws to control the internet, silence the press, and censor social media. A cybersecurity law? What security are you talking about? There is no security—Türkiye has become a digital open market!”
