Osman Ayık, the Tourism Advisor to the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, stated that Türkiye is one of the fastest-growing destinations in the world in tourism and has so far followed a supply-oriented approach. Speaking to TurizmDays, Ayık emphasized that Türkiye is among the countries hosting the most tourists globally, saying, "We have taken shares that other destinations should have received." However, he noted that this size brings some challenges. Ayık said, "Since we are now a destination playing in the league, destinations that challenge the market below us have started to attack our share."

"We used the all-inclusive system in the best way"

Stating that the all-inclusive system has been applied effectively and efficiently until now, Ayık mentioned that consumers have started to question the costs of this system. "Consumers might start to question whether they should pay for services they do not use," said Ayık, expressing that this situation poses a significant problem in terms of price competition.

"Was such capacity really needed?"

Touching on the occupancy capacities of deluxe hotels in Belek, Ayık raised the question, "Was such capacity really needed?" Questioning the research on which these investments are based, Ayık emphasized the need for serious analysis to solve occupancy issues.

Mentioning that high inflation pressure and rising costs negatively affect prices in Türkiye, Ayık said, "We have to increase our prices in terms of foreign currency." He stated that this situation decreases Türkiye's competitiveness and that costs need to be brought under control.

Osman Ayık stated that Türkiye has solved every problem it has faced in tourism well and that creative solutions can be found in the future. Ayık, emphasizing that a little more coordination is needed, stated that the sector dynamics and the ministry need to work together to create a new roadmap.

Indicating that daily rentals negatively affect hotel occupancy rates in Antalya, Ayık said, "A significant number of people have started to stay in the center through the daily rental method." He expressed that this situation reduces hotel occupancy rates and that detailed analyses should be conducted on accommodation durations and tourist numbers.
