President of Turkish Travel Association (TÜRSAB), Firuz Bağlıkaya, revealed that they have initiated legal proceedings against exclusive authorities in hotels.
Bağlıkaya pointed out that a significant portion of hotels available for Turkish citizens to vacation in are monopolized by a few tour operators. "This monopoly situation naturally leads to significant price increases," he said. He noted that the monopolistic system operates with commission rates as high as 40 percent, and even the hotels themselves do not earn as much as these companies.
Bağlıkaya emphasized that tour operators globally operate with profit margins between 2-4 percent, and he stressed the need to intervene against the monopolies operating under the guise of exclusive authority. Consequently, TÜRSAB has initiated the relevant legal process.
