According to the biennial index, which brings together the world's most renowned business leaders and politicians, Türkiye climbed eight places to rank 29th out of 119 countries.
Significant growth in the index
With a score of 4.39, Türkiye's index rating is 10.6% higher than the global average and 3% above the European average of 4.26. This rise highlights Türkiye's position as one of the fastest-developing countries in both Europe and the world, showcasing the positive impacts of its sustainable tourism policies and international competitiveness.
Prioritizing tourism
In the TTDI, Türkiye made significant progress in the "travel and tourism prioritization" category, advancing 18 places to become the world's second country in this metric. Additionally, Türkiye showed remarkable improvement in air transport infrastructure, rising 10 places to secure the 8th position globally.
Cultural and natural assets
Türkiye maintained its 13th position in the cultural resources category and climbed seven places in non-leisure resources to reach the 16th position. In the natural resources criteria, Türkiye experienced a significant jump of 24 places, ranking 32nd in this category.
Areas for improvement
The index also highlighted areas where Türkiye can further develop, such as price competitiveness, tourist services and infrastructure, safety and security, human resources and labor market, demand sustainability, and business environment.
Emphasis on sustainability
Previously known as the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) from 2007 to 2019, the report was renamed and its criteria updated in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2022, the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) has placed greater emphasis on sustainability.
Data for the TTDI is sourced from international organizations such as the World Travel and Tourism Council, United Nations World Tourism Organization, and International Air Transport Association. The index also incorporates insights from the Executive Opinion Survey, coordinated by the "Competitiveness Forum," a joint initiative of Sabancı University and TÜSİAD, and was published in 2023 with new datasets, sources, and methodologies.
