In 2015, Turkish Airlines halted flights to Tripoli due to the chaos and ensuing conflicts following the NATO-backed coup against Muammar Gaddafi. After a hiatus of over 9 years, Turkish Airlines has resumed flights.
Bilal Ekşi, the General Manager of Turkish Airlines, expressed that he is happy for resuming flights to Libya, stating their commitment to continue connecting Africa with various cultures. Ekşi remarked, "As Turkish Airlines, we feel the excitement of bridging continents, this time felt in the capital of Libya, Tripoli. We are delighted to resume flights to Libya, with which we have historical ties. With the growing market and increasing demand, we will continue to connect not only continents but also Africa with cultures. We believe that with the evolving and changing industrial investments, the importance of tourism and trade in the African continent will increase in the medium and long term."
Special fares for the route opening
Turkish Airlines passengers can travel from Istanbul to Tripoli starting from $379 and from Tripoli to Istanbul starting from $299, with tickets purchased between March 23 and May 15, 2024, for travel between March 28 and May 31, 2024.
The flag carrier will operate flights to Tripoli with Boeing B737-78D aircraft on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, totaling 3 flights per week.
