Türkiye remains the most popular summer destination for Kazakh tourists, known for its all-inclusive holidays, high-quality services, and diverse tourist offerings. In an interview with Dina Marganova from Tourcode.kz, Orhan Sancar, PEGAS Touristik Russia and CIS Coordinator, discussed the flourishing tourism relations between Kazakhstan and Türkiye, the importance of the Kazakh market for Türkiye's tourism sector, and the reasons behind Türkiye's enduring popularity among Kazakh tourists.

Rising tourist numbers

Evaluating the tourism relations between Kazakhstan and Türkiye, Sancar highlighted, "Kazakhstan and Türkiye are continuously increasing their cooperation in various fields, including tourism. Significant developments have been achieved in recent years, with both governments making joint efforts to promote tourism as a cooperation area. These efforts include encouraging cultural exchange, improving transportation infrastructure, and developing joint tourism projects. Such initiatives not only increase the flow of tourists between the two countries but also deepen mutual understanding of each other's cultural and historical heritage. As a result of these joint efforts, the number of tourists traveling between Kazakhstan and Türkiye is rising."

Tourism discussed at the SCO Summit

When asked if tourism was discussed during the SCO summit, Sancar responded, "Yes, tourism was indeed discussed at the recent SCO summit. Leaders from both countries emphasized that tourism is a sector that can significantly contribute to economic growth and cultural ties. Various strategies, such as joint marketing campaigns, developing new tourism products, and simplifying travel arrangements for citizens of both countries, were explored. Both sides expressed their intentions to develop joint programs to enhance tourism potential."

Organizing joint events

Sancar stressed the need for organizing joint events to strengthen tourism ties between Kazakhstan and Türkiye, stating, "Kazakhstan and Türkiye can collaborate in tourism through the exchange of experiences and best practices, organizing joint events, and promoting tourist routes. Increased cooperation in marketing, infrastructure development, and creating favorable conditions for tourists from both countries would be beneficial."

Importance of the Kazakh market

Discussing the significance of the Kazakh tourism market for Türkiye, Sancar noted, "Last year, Türkiye hosted approximately 826,000 Kazakh citizens. This stable flow of tourists highlights Kazakhstan as an important growing market for Türkiye. Kazakh tourists are crucial not only for the growth of our tourism sector but also for strengthening cultural and economic ties between our countries. Türkiye and Kazakhstan have long cooperated in tourism and other sectors, sharing many similarities, values, traditions, beliefs, and cuisine. Many Kazakhs live in Türkiye, and many Turks live in Kazakhstan, fostering close relationships. This mutual affection ensures continued demand for Türkiye despite economic fluctuations."

Factors contributing to Türkiye's popularity

Responding to why Türkiye remains popular among Kazakh tourists despite rising costs, Sancar explained, "Several factors contribute to Türkiye's popularity: unique tourist offers, diverse services, and a strong reputation. Geographical proximity and cultural similarities with Kazakhstan also play a role. Türkiye offers a wide range of holiday options catering to various budgets and tastes, from luxury resorts to affordable packages. High service standards in Turkish resorts and hotels ensure positive travel experiences, reinforcing Türkiye's reputation as a safe and hospitable destination. This encourages repeat visits."

Popular destinations in Türkiye

Sancar listed popular destinations for Kazakh tourists in Türkiye, including Antalya, Bodrum, and Cappadocia. He also noted an increasing interest in eco-tourism and active holidays. "Tourists often choose destinations based on the experiences they seek. Antalya is loved for its beautiful beaches, luxury resorts, and vibrant nightlife. Istanbul offers a mix of modern and ancient attractions. Bodrum is known for its stunning coastal views, lively atmosphere, and historical sites. Marmaris is popular for its turquoise waters, scenic landscapes, and water sports opportunities. Cappadocia is famous for hot air balloon tours. Different Turkish resorts are ready to offer Kazakh guests unforgettable experiences and everything needed for a perfect summer vacation."

Plans for growth in Kazakhstan

Discussing PEGAS Touristik’s growth and promotional activities in Kazakhstan, Sancar stated, “We have various plans in this regard. We continue to meet and work directly with our agents in different cities of Kazakhstan to develop the business. In September, we plan to organize a large roadshow and bring together Kazakh agents with Thai hoteliers. We have similar plans for Turkish and Vietnamese hoteliers in the future. We also participate in the KITF fair every year. One of our dreams is to achieve incoming tourism in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan offers a rich and unexplored geography for winter sports, mountaineering, and outdoor activities. Therefore, we will continue to strengthen our ties with our Kazakh partners and actively promote new tourism products and services.”
