TÜROB President Müberra Eresin highlighted that the accommodation sector in Türkiye has always been attractive for both local and foreign investors. Noting that there are very successful local chains, Eresin pointed out that support is needed for local hotel chains to expand abroad.

The interest of hotel chains and groups in the Turkish tourism market continues. The Turkish Hotel Association (TÜROB) announced the Türkiye Chain & Group Hotels Research 2023. According to TÜROB's research, despite the two-year pandemic break during 2020-2021, the number of chain and group hotels operating in Türkiye continued to increase, reaching 67. With this feature, Türkiye is at the forefront of the countries most interested in by both local and foreign hotel chains and groups.

722 facilities with 157,000 rooms

According to the research, out of the 67 chain and group hotels, 46 are local and 21 are foreign investments. The total number of rooms in the 722 accommodation facilities linked to chain and group hotels in Türkiye reached 157,495. According to TÜROB's research in 2019, this number was identified as 57. In 2019, there were a total of 627 accommodation facilities linked to 57 chain and group hotels, with a room count of 145,450. 321 operators, 257 owners

Looking at the operation model distribution of the said 722 facilities; 321 are franchise, 257 are owner-operated, 79 are management, and 65 are lease.

Eresin: Always an attractive sector

In the research, TÜROB President Müberra Eresin emphasized that the accommodation sector in Türkiye has always been attractive for both local and foreign investors. Eresin said, "Despite everything, the sector retains its appeal and continues to do so. The increase in investments and the increase in the number of hotels within local and foreign hotel chains are indicators of this situation. Türkiye, especially Istanbul, remains among the world's most attractive cities for tourism investments."

'Support for local chains to expand abroad is necessary'

Pointing out the need for support for local hotel chains to expand abroad, Eresin expressed the following views: "The distinction in types of operations is often confused, but I especially want to mention that in all these types of operations, the investor is mostly a Turkish company. Apart from investors operating their hotel with their own brand, some investors obtain the naming rights from a local or foreign chain before opening the hotel and operate it under that foreign name themselves or sign a contract allowing the hotel to be operated entirely by a local or foreign brand. The point we particularly try to highlight is that Turkish firms making these hotel investments should be supported both domestically and especially abroad, and opportunities should be created for them to carry their successes abroad. Currently, the conditions for benefiting from Turquality in the accommodation sector are difficult. We have very successful local hotel chains. We should provide more support to local brands, especially for their overseas projects, and help them stand out."
