With a nearly 50 per-cent increase in the number of available beds since 2014, Türkiye ranks first in bed supply expansion across Europe. In contrast, countries like Spain and Italy, which compete with Türkiye for tourist numbers, recorded a modest 7-8% increase in bed supply, while France and Greece even saw slight declines. Overall, Europe’s average bed supply growth over this period recorded just 7 per-cent.
France and Italy lead in total bed capacity
According to data compiled by Turizm Databank from Eurostat, between 2014 and 2023, Italy’s bed capacity rose from 4.87 million to 5.2 million, while France saw a slight decline from 5.13 million to 5.09 million. Meanwhile, Spain's bed capacity increased from 3.52 million to 3.82 million, and Germany followed, expanding from 3.34 million to 3.66 million.
Türkiye, however, achieved remarkable growth, raising its bed supply by approximately 50 per-cent, from 1.2 million to 1.8 million. This expansion is also reflected in hotel pricing, with a notable concentration of five-star hotels in Türkiye, while many European countries focus on three- and four-star establishments.
