Turkish Airlines (THY) has resumed flights between Istanbul and Beirut after a suspension of over two months due to Israeli aggression on Lebanon. The national carrier of Türkiye halted its Beirut operations on September 21, following intensified clashes between Israel and the Lebanon-based resistance group Hezbollah.
Ceasefire prompts resumption
A ceasefire was reached last week between the conflicting parties, although both sides continue to accuse each other of violating the agreement. In light of these developments, Turkish Airlines has decided to reinstate its Beirut flights, marking a significant step in reconnecting the region.
Gradual expansion of flight schedule
Initially, THY will operate one daily flight to Beirut. Starting December 8, the frequency will increase to two flights per day, followed by a further expansion to four daily flights beginning December 11.
Tickets for the Istanbul-Beirut route are now available on Turkish Airlines' official website. The airline aims to enhance both commercial and tourism links through the resumed services, strengthening connectivity in the region.
Strategic focus on regional stability
The resumption of Beirut flights is seen as a vital component of Turkish Airlines' regional operations, particularly in light of the fragile ceasefire. The carrier continues to prioritize strategic routes to reinforce Istanbul’s position as a global transit hub, reflecting its commitment to regional and international mobility.
