The amendment to the "Regulation on the Rights of Passengers Traveling by Air" has been published in the Official Gazette and is now in effect.
According to the new regulation, airlines must provide monetary compensation for flights delayed due to technical or operational reasons. Passengers affected by delays of three hours or more will be entitled to compensation ranging from €100 to €600.
Under the regulation, compensation for domestic flights is set at €100. For international flights, the amount of compensation depends on dinstance;
€250 for flights up to 1,500 kilometers,
€400 for flights between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometers,
€600 for flights exceeding 3,500 kilometers.
The compensation will be paid in Turkish Lira, calculated based on the Central Bank of Türkiye's exchange rate on the payment date.
Passengers seeking compensation must submit a claim to the airline after the delayed flight, including details of the ticket and the duration of the delay.
The regulation aims to encourage airlines to enhance their operational processes and minimize passenger grievances due to flight delays.
